The band is composed by David Gahan (lead vocals), Martin L. Gore (keyboards, guitar, vocals, and main songwriter since '81) and Andy Fletcher (keyboard and bass). At the beginning, in 1980 Depeche Mode had Vince Clarke (keyboard and songwriter) until '81, between 1982 and 1995 they had Alan Wilder has drummer. They've become a trio since '95 and stayed like that until today.
This band is considered one of the most important and influence electronic bands, near Pet Shop Boys, New Order and Kraftwerk. They also influence so many different artists and genres for example Foo Fighters, Marlyn Manson, Deftones, Lady Gaga, Shakira or Linkin Park.

Precious appears on the eleventh album Playing The Angel, which was a very well received album by the critics.
Exceptionally Martin Gore revealed the meaning of Precious, because he usually prefers people to find their own meanings. Precious is about his children and what they must have been going through when he was divorcing from their mother.
