Today is the 30th anniversary of the Jamaican Reggae superstar, Bob Marley.
We all can all agree that he was really important for the music industry. His music was heavily influenced by the social issues of Jamaica. His best-known hits include "I Shot the Sheriff", "No Woman, No Cry", "Could You Be Loved", "Stir It Up", "Jamming", "Redemption Song" and "One Love".
His music has moved people and started movements, and he's constantly reminded us all that "one good thing about music, when it hits, you feel no pain."
He died at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Miami on the morning of 11 May 1981, at the age of 36. The spread of melanoma (discovered in July 1977) to his lungs and brain caused his death.
His final words were:
Money can't buy life.
Most people think,
Great God will come from the skies,
Take away everything
And make everybody feel high.
But if you know what life is worth,
You will look for yours on earth:
And now you see the light,
You stand up for your rights. Jah!
Get up, stand up! (Jah, Jah!)
Stand up for your rights! (Oh-hoo!)
Get up, stand up! (Get up, stand up!)
Don't give up the fight! (Life is your right!)
Get up, stand up! (So we can't give up the fight!)
A.
