The group is composed nowadays by Jamie "Jonny 5" Laurie (vocals), Stephen "Brer Rabbit" Brackett (vocals), Jesse Walker (bass guitar), Kenny Ortiz (drums) and Mackenzie Gault (viola and vocals).
They also have a live member Joe Ferrone who plays trumpet.
They are also known for songs like Rise and White Flag Warrior.
With 2 released albums - Fight with Tools (2007) and re-released an year later and Survival Story (2010), Flobots are rare in terms of sound, also have two EPs - Flobots Present... Platypus (2005) and Live At The House of Blues - Anaheim, California (2009).
Handlebars is the debut single taken from Fight with Tools. The song also appears on the band's first EP Flobots Present... Platypus.
Jamie Laurie described the song as "the idea that we have so much incredible potential as human beings to be destructive or to be creative." He added "And it's tragic to me that the appetite for military innovation is endless, but when it comes to taking on a project like ending world hunger, it's seen as outlandish. It's not treated with the same seriousness. [...] at the same time, I knew there were people at that moment who were being bombed by our own country. And I thought that was incredibly powerful."
Stating the contrast between "little moments of creativity, these bursts of innovation," and he feels is both the song is "beautiful and tragic at the same time."
Handlebars was an international hit achieving several Tops, including the Billboard.
