News - The 2012 European Capital of Culture

In 2012 Guimarães (Portugal) and Maribor (Slovenia) are the European Capital of Culture.

The European Capital of Culture is a city designed by the European Union for one year during which the city organises several cultural events.

The official programme of events began on 13 January in Maribor and begins today, 21 January, in Guimarães.

This is a great oportunity for the cities to increase tourism and jobs - kind of very important to Portugal due to the crisis we are facing.

The Guimarães programme will focuse on 4 different themes: City, Community, Tought and Arts.
