Take On Me video was absolutely revolutionary for the time. The concept was created by Steve Barron who had work previously with Toto and Michael Jackson.
The video was recorded in a small café in London. Using a pencil-sketch animation / live action combination technique called rotoscoping.
The video's theme is mostly romantic, about a girl with Bunty Bailey - Morten's girlfriend at the time - reading a comic book in a coffee shop. The comic book is about motorcycle racing with the hero being represented by Morten Harket. The end of the video is based on the 1980's movie Altered States.
On the MTV Video Music Awards in 1986, Take On Me won six awards - like Best Concept Video, Best Direction and Viewer's Choice.
Thanks to the record A-ha were the first Norwegian band to be nominated to a Grammy Award, in 1986.
"So needless to say
I'm odds and ends
But I'll be stumbling anyway
Slowly learning that life is OK
Say after me
It's no better to be safe than sorry"
