Vanessa Paradis is a French singer that appeared in the 1981's but got really known after her song Joe Le Taxi.

Paradis made her first TV appearance with only 8 years old singing Emile Jolie.
Since then she divides her career between singing and acting.

Vanessa Paradis released 10 studio, live and compilation albums - M&J (1988), Variations Sur Le Même T'aime (1990), Vanessa Paradis (1992), Live (1994), Bliss (2000), Au Zénith (2001), Divinidylle (2007), Divinidylle Tour (2008), Best Of Vanessa Paradis (2009) and Une Nuit à Versailles (2010).

Joe Le Taxi is the first single taken from M&J - short name for Marilyn & John -and released in 1988. This single was very well received, reaching the number #1 on the French charts staying for 11 weeks and number #3 when released in the UK - very uncommon in the French music.
The song is about a taxi driver named Joe, who works in Paris. Along the song we can notice that Joe knows the entire city of Paris including all the little bars, streets and bridges. Ont the song it's also suggested that Joe enjoys drinking Rum, likes Latin music and his saxophone and his dream is to go to the Amazon.

Joe Le Taxi appears after a visit Paradis made to her uncle's studio, where she heard him talk about this taxi driver named Joe. She loved the story and asked him if she could sing about it, turning into Joe Le Taxi with the lyrics written by Frank Langolff and Étienne Roda-Gil.

"Joe le taxi
Y va pas partout
Y marche pas au soda
Son saxo jaune
Connaît toutes les rues par coeur
Tous les p'tits bars
Tous les coins noirs
Et la Seine
Et ses ponts qui brillent"
