Metallica are an American heavy metal band created in 1981. Nowadays they are composed by Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujiillo.
Along their career they've released 9 studio albums: Kill 'Em All (1983), Ride The Lightning (1984), Master of Puppets (1986), ... And Justice For All (1988), Metallica, known as The Black Album (1991), Load (1996), ReLoad (1997), St. Anger (2003) and Death Magnetic (2008). In 2011 they've made a collaboration album with Lou Reed named Lulu.
The Unforgiven is the second single taken from Metallica's Black Album and released in October 28, 1991.
Once Lars Ulrich explained the band wanted to create a new idea of ballad - trying to escape from the standard: melodic verse and strong chorus. Metallica used heavy and distorted verses and soft chorus played with classical guitars.
There are two continuation songs - The Unforgiven II, in ReLoad, and The Unforgiven III, in Death Magnetic, released respectively on February 23, 1998 and September 12, 2008.
"Throughout his life the same
He's battled constantly
This fight he cannot win
A tired man they see no longer cares"
Note: They played on the first day of Rock In Rio - Lisboa 2012, on May 25. Check their performance of this song here.
