Review: Lewis M "One Only EP" (2014)

Lewis M é o nome artístico de Luís Montenegro, membro integrante da banda Salto.

O seu projecto a solo surge como uma resposta à necessidade de explorar novos sons e géneros, pelo menos assim o parece.

One Only EP
Aug 1, 2014

Submotion Orchestra - Perfection

Today I'm going to show you one of my newest discovers: Submotion Orchestra.

This interesting and original project was born in 2009 in Leeds, UK. Part of this band are Tommy Evans, Danny Templeman, Chris Hargreaves, Ruby Wood (vocals), Ruckspin, Taz Modi and Simon Beddoe.

In their songs they mix a lot of different styles such as dubset, jazz and soul which creates amazing and delicate songs.

Submotion Orchestra's first album was realesed last year under the name Finest Hour.

In their website they allow you to hear most of, if not all, their songs: http://submotion.co.uk/music/

Right below is one of my favorite songs from them - Perfection:

And here is the poem sung in this song:

Perfection, to me
Flawlessly wrong
Un-spoilt blemishes
Perfect to me
A thousand pieces in a jigsaw of beautiful mistakes
It’s the perfection of your imperfection
Perfection, to me
An un-broken breakage
The re-arrangement of
Perfect, I’ve seen
The debris of beauty flickers
In the sadness of a smile
It’s the perfection of your imperfection

Skrillex, First Of The Year (Equinox)

Skrillex (previously known on the internet as Twipz) is the artistic name of the American electronic dance music producer Sonny John Moore.
He is also the former frontman for From First To Last.

Sonny Moore started his solo career as Skrillex around 2007 and is known for songs like My Name Is Skrillex, Cinema or Ruffneck.

With 3 solo EP's under his artistic name - My Name Is Skrillex (2010), Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites (2010) and his last More Monsters and Sprites (2011).
In 2009, he released Gypsyhook EP as Sonny.

Moore is also known for his producing work, lending his service to Bring Me The Horizon or Korn. He has toured with All Time Low or Forever The Sickest Kids as Sonny Moore and with Deadmau5 as Skrillex, also participating at the very prestigious Coachella.
He has his own label - OWSLA - created in August 2011.

First Of The Year (Equinox) is a track that belongs to Skrillex last EP More Monsters and Sprites, released in June 7,2011 as a single.
The exclamation from this song is "Call 911 now!" was taken from a Youtube video of a lady yelling to a crowd she supposed to be of illegal photographers.

The song is followed by a strong video which is about an older man stalking a little girl. He follows her into her "dark chamber" and unexpectedly she screams "Call 911 now!" and starts torturing the man, being eventually killed by the girl's powers and the video ends with her making off a tally on a wall with 75 other tallies - leaving the doubt that either she killed 75 men or has being doing this for 75 years, inspiring the song title.

"Call 911 now!"

Unicorn Kid, Dream Catcher

Unicorn Kid is the artistic name for Oliver Sabin. This electronic musician from Scotland is the new fresh wave on music scenario in the United Kingdom.

This 19-year-old scottish DJ/electronic musician has already supported very different artists such as Pet Shop Boys in Scotland, Hadouken! in early 2010 on their UK tour.
Unicorn Kid was announced as the support act for the synth-pop sensation Owl City on his European tour in September/October 2011.

Unicorn Kid self-released two EPs, one of them We Had Eaten All The Animals, And Bartered All The Jewels in December 2007, Lion Hat was released in the early 2009 on Euphonios - a Scottish based-independent label. In the middle of that same year, Unicorn Kid released other EP Wee Monsters/Animal City - also with Euphonios. Both singles collected good reviews and mainstream on radios.
In August 2011,  he released his EP Tidal Rave with three songs.

Dream Catcher, the song released under the label Ministry Of Sound. Many online reviews described this song as really related with dubstep "undertone", it's edgier and way dirtier than his previous songs. Zane Lowe, BBC - Radio 1 broadcaster and DJ, described his video has “next level shit”.

You can support Unicorn Kid's career through his website, MySpace, Facebook and Twitter.

Electronic Arts // Introducing Mike Bek

Hi, my name is Mike Bek and I'm the new collaborator of FYMS.

I'll sharing with you some of my musical taste, knowledge, researches, realeases, but most of all happiness thru music.

So I'll will introduce myself. I'm 19 years old, taking my first steps in the world of djing, so as it might be logical I'll be bringing you alternative electronic music.
Pure Exprimental music, house uk style, uk funky, uk garage, post-dubstep, even a bit of Dubstep.

I'll explain a bit better to you:

Experimental is a genre wich means basically transporting feelings and/or experiences into sounds. Wich means usually abstract music, instruments you might know played in a different way, strange percussion, in another words breaking with the cannons and "rules" of music.

With you by IVVVO

House (uk style) is a genre that is reborning. House in the 80's was the king of dance music, evolved to our days, forgetting the roots of it. And Nowaday this uk style, 80's style is coming back together with the influence of uk garage and post-dubstep.

Uk Funky is sometimes confused with kuduro, because of it's percussion, but the huge difference is that kuduro root's are the whole africa and uk funky, as logical, has it's roots in uk, uk cannon instruments.

Uk Garage is probably the most hard to define. Uk Garage is the father of dubstep, it's basically when people thought on house with a hip hop percussion, so is basically the mid term between house and dubstep, giving new experiences to the percussion and giving more emphasis to the bass.

Dubstep in the begining was something darker, huge basses, sometimes with a bit of distorcion, like a dark hip hop with no rap. When it got mixed up with "feelings", more exprimental, happy and with r&b pitched up vocals arose the Post-dubstep.

Hope you enjoyed,
Mike
