Vox Laci, Playback

Vox Laci are a Portuguese choir project from São Domingos de Rana, Cascais, created in 1994, having as main objective to open the musical world for those who wanted to join in.

The project Vox Laci was created after the maestro Myguel Santos e Castro went to Italy and was inspired by a concert of the Mountain Men's Choir and the help of the Priest António Fernando from the local church.
In September 1994 there was a challenge on the local area to turn the project into something real. Appearing 30 candidates - 17 children and 9 adults - representing the Children Choir (7 to 11 years) and Adult (starting with 18 years), Vox Laci was now a solid project. In September 2002, after a competition in Minneapolis, there was the need to created two more and specific choirs categories - the Tiny Ones Choir (3 to 7 years) and the Youth Choir (12 to 17 years).

Vox Laci means Voice of the Lake but also appeals to other Nature sensations like the moonlight or the wind. The name is an illusion from very different elements (the people) that when put together sound harmonious, without losing the specific and unique characteristics of each individual, running for one objective sharing Music.

Playback is an original song by the Portuguese singer Carlos Paião, that was a hit in the 80's. The song satirizes "singing in playback", which he explains to be in fact miming to a pre-recorded music. Playback appeared on the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981, adding four backup singers - Pedro Calvinho, Cristina Águas, Ana Bola and Peter Peterson - acting like robots emphasizing the playback theme.

"Põe o microfone à frente,
Muito disfarçadamente,
Vai sorrindo, que é p'ra gente
Lá presente
Não notar!..."

Vox Laci are presenting this Sunday, their Show Choir on the emblematic Tivoli Theater, in Lisbon. Scheduled for two different times, 12pm and 10pm, the choir promise a very eclectic repertoire including Pop, Rock, Gospel and Hip-hop.
