The White Stripes, Icky Thump

The White Stripes were an American rock band, formed in 1997 in Detroit.
The duo composed by Jack White (vocals, guitar and keyboards) and Meg White (drums and vocals).

Their genre is something between Garage rock, punk and alternative still The White Stripes are usually very well recognized.
Their career lift off after the successful and incredibly acclaimed albums White Blood Cells and Elephant got the attention of the medias.

The White Stripes are considered to be a "do-it-yourself" band due to their approach to writing and recording. Their performances and usual clothes colors were the combination of red, white and black.
The band won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album on their last three albums.

After a long time of hiatus, they formally announced the band's end on February 2, 2011.

With 6 albums - The White Stripes (1999), De Stijl (2000), White Blood Cells (2001), Elephant (2003), Get Behind Me Satan (2005) and Icky Thump (2007), besides a live album, two EPs, a live DVD, two documentaries and several singles.

Icky Thump is he band's return to punk, garage rock and blues influences that characterizes the band.
The album's name is derived from "ecky thump", a Lancashire informal response of surprise, popularized on the 1970s UK comedy series The Goodies.
On a TV show Later with Jools Holland, Jack White explained the album's name comes from an expression used by his wife, who's from Lancashire. He added that the misspelling was deliberated and is to make easier to their other audience to relate with. There's also a suggestion of the spelling variation to avoid copyright infrigement.

On July 2007, Jack White told to Blender Magazine that "[Icky Thump] is about feeling positive about being alive, taking deep breaths and just being really happy."

Icky Thump was also the first single taken from the same-titled album. Written by Jack White, the songs is about immigration to the United States, criticizing the contemporary American immigration policy.
