TV Rural, Correr de Olhos Fechados

TV Rural are a young Portuguese band created in 2001 and composed by David Jacinto (vocals and sax), David Santos (bass guitar and contrabass), Gonçalo Ferreira (electric guitar), Vasco Viana (electric guitar) and João Pinheiro (drums). Occasionally they count with Tomás Viana on sax, Roca on vocals and Manel Pinheiro on percussion.

They've released two albums: Filomena Grita! in late 2007 and A Balada do Coiote, a few weeks ago.

Their unique sound complemented with strong lyrics written entirely in Portuguese, turn them to something really special and worth listening to.
Described by Pedro Puppe as "anti-pop for their constant rejection of the composition formulas from radio friends, search for the spontaneous, joke and sometimes ugly. It's all freedom of musicians who come from psychedelic and progressive want to do, with elaborate arrangements and several melodic and rhythmic moments on each song, giving them this big theatrical dimension".

It's clear how creative, how revolutionary and how fresh TV Rural are and that reflects on their music and the way they expose themselves.

They are a really exciting band, I'm eager to discover more about them and their last record A Balada do Coiote it's absolutely great!

Correr de Olhos Fechados is a very catchy and grunge first single, I almost believe I listen to Ornatos Violeta's singer Manel Cruz at some point on this song. The choirs really complement this anxious feeling, it really represents some kind of rush.
I like these type of songs.

On this video, directed by David Jacinto and counting with the skaters João Martins, Gonçalo Vilardebó and Rui "Ruca" Ferreira.

"A pedra é dor entranhada na pele
São lascas de mármore entranhadas na pele
Coço as feridas que tenho na pele

Fica a mazela, essa sim, carrego com ela "

The White Stripes, The Same Boy You've Always Known

The White Stripes were an American rock duo from Detroit, formed in 1997 by Jack White (vocals, guitars and keyboards) and Meg White (drums and occasional vocals).

The band is known for their unique characteristic raw rock sound that made them one of the most remarkable bands of the last decades.

On live performances they had a three-colour aesthetic based on red, black and white.
Characterized by their iconic guitar riffs and simplicity, they've released six albums: The White Stripes (1999), De Stijl (2000), White Blood Cells (2001), Elephant (2003), Get Behind Me Satan (2005) and Icky Thump (2007), besides one EP, two live albums and a DVD.

Among their biggest hits is often recognized Seven Nation Army, The Hardest Button to Button, Icky Thump and Conquest.

The Same Boy You've Always Known is song from White Blood Cells - the record was very acclaimed by critics and a honest attemp of getting away of their "usual" blues-rock.
To Spin, Jack White afirmed: "There's no blues on the new record. We're taking a break from that. There's no slide work, bass, guitar solos, or cover songs. It's just me and Meg, guitar, drums and piano."
Not released as a single, this song is a bit different from The White Stripes's first records being more calm and more directed to the garage rock - described as more raw, pure and simple - that contrasts the opposite feeling of the record.

On this song, Jack White uses his voice in a very particular way, a perfect combination of punk and blues but with a very subtle suffering feeling that contrasts with the powerful lyrics.

Nowadays, the song is included on Jack White's solo performances with different approaches.

"I thought this is just today
And soon you'd been returning
The coldest blue ocean water
Cannot stop my heart and mind
From burning"

The Black Keys, Gold On The Ceiling

The Black Keys are an American rock band composed by Dan Auerbach, on vocals and guitars and Patrick Carney, on drums.
The duo, on live performances, counts with Gus Seyffert, on bass guitar and vocals and John Wood on keyboards, guitars, vocals and percussion.

Created in 2001 and after being labeled by the indie label Alive, they've released seven studio albums The Big Come Up in 2002, Thickfreakness in 2003, Rubber Factory in 2004, Magic Potion in 2006, Attack & Release in 2008, Brothers in 2010 and El Camino in 2011.

Their last El Camino was recorded in Nashville at Easy Eye Sound Studio, opened by Dan Auerbach in 2010. Highly influenced by different genres like glam rock, rockabilly or rock n' roll, citing names like The Clash, The Cars and The Beatles, contrasting the slower songs of Brothers.
With very positive critics and incredibly well-received by audience, El Camino received its name after the Chevrolet El Camino. The inspiration for the album appeared while driving in their tour bus in Canada in 2010, being mentioned "as a joke".
On an interview for The Colbert Nation, they explained "El Camino is Spanish for "the road" or "the path". The band found out the phrase's meaning after selecting it as an album title, and they joked about the record taking on deeper meaning afterwards."

Michael Carney, Patrick's brother and the Black Keys art director, was initially hesitant about the record's title. Patrick recounted the conversation with his brother to Nashville Scene:
"I told my brother the idea and my brother was like, "You know, if you name the record El Camino, everybody's going to think of the car the El Camino." And I was like, "Yeah exactly. That's the fucking point!" And he was like, "OK, but why don't we just put a car on the cover that's not an El Camino?" And I said, "OK, what kind of car?" He says, "Just put the first car you guys ever toured in on the cover.""

And the record's cover image came up being Plymouth Grand Voyager - the first tour car which they toured for a year and a half.

Gold On The Ceiling was the second single taken from the record and released on February 25, 2012.
On this year's MTV Movie Awards, The Black Keys counted with the winner of the Generation award Johnny Depp to perform with them, check it here.

"Clouds covered love's
Barbed-wire stairs
Strung up, strung out
I just can't go without
I could never drown"

The White Stripes, Icky Thump

The White Stripes were an American rock band, formed in 1997 in Detroit.
The duo composed by Jack White (vocals, guitar and keyboards) and Meg White (drums and vocals).

Their genre is something between Garage rock, punk and alternative still The White Stripes are usually very well recognized.
Their career lift off after the successful and incredibly acclaimed albums White Blood Cells and Elephant got the attention of the medias.

The White Stripes are considered to be a "do-it-yourself" band due to their approach to writing and recording. Their performances and usual clothes colors were the combination of red, white and black.
The band won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album on their last three albums.

After a long time of hiatus, they formally announced the band's end on February 2, 2011.

With 6 albums - The White Stripes (1999), De Stijl (2000), White Blood Cells (2001), Elephant (2003), Get Behind Me Satan (2005) and Icky Thump (2007), besides a live album, two EPs, a live DVD, two documentaries and several singles.

Icky Thump is he band's return to punk, garage rock and blues influences that characterizes the band.
The album's name is derived from "ecky thump", a Lancashire informal response of surprise, popularized on the 1970s UK comedy series The Goodies.
On a TV show Later with Jools Holland, Jack White explained the album's name comes from an expression used by his wife, who's from Lancashire. He added that the misspelling was deliberated and is to make easier to their other audience to relate with. There's also a suggestion of the spelling variation to avoid copyright infrigement.

On July 2007, Jack White told to Blender Magazine that "[Icky Thump] is about feeling positive about being alive, taking deep breaths and just being really happy."

Icky Thump was also the first single taken from the same-titled album. Written by Jack White, the songs is about immigration to the United States, criticizing the contemporary American immigration policy.
