The band is known for their unique characteristic raw rock sound that made them one of the most remarkable bands of the last decades.
On live performances they had a three-colour aesthetic based on red, black and white.
Characterized by their iconic guitar riffs and simplicity, they've released six albums: The White Stripes (1999), De Stijl (2000), White Blood Cells (2001), Elephant (2003), Get Behind Me Satan (2005) and Icky Thump (2007), besides one EP, two live albums and a DVD.
Among their biggest hits is often recognized Seven Nation Army, The Hardest Button to Button, Icky Thump and Conquest.
The Same Boy You've Always Known is song from White Blood Cells - the record was very acclaimed by critics and a honest attemp of getting away of their "usual" blues-rock.
To Spin, Jack White afirmed: "There's no blues on the new record. We're taking a break from that. There's no slide work, bass, guitar solos, or cover songs. It's just me and Meg, guitar, drums and piano."
Not released as a single, this song is a bit different from The White Stripes's first records being more calm and more directed to the garage rock - described as more raw, pure and simple - that contrasts the opposite feeling of the record.
On this song, Jack White uses his voice in a very particular way, a perfect combination of punk and blues but with a very subtle suffering feeling that contrasts with the powerful lyrics.
Nowadays, the song is included on Jack White's solo performances with different approaches.
"I thought this is just today
And soon you'd been returning
The coldest blue ocean water
Cannot stop my heart and mind
From burning"
