Lorde, Royals

Lorde is the fancy ("Some people think it's religious, but it's not", she says) name adopted by Ella Yelich O'Connor.

About her curious name, she explained to Interview Magazine that "I was trying to come up with a stage name, I thought 'Lord' was a super rad, but really masculine (...) So to make Lord more feminine, I just put an 'e' on the end!" adding that since she was a little girl she was really into royalty and aristocracy.

With sixteen years old, the New-Zealand girl has already released her debut and really acclaimed record Pure Heroine, last September.
In 2012, she released her first EP The Love Club.

This young artist's music reflects a mix of many different things - from hip hop beats to electronic lines  being influenced by artists like James Blake or Lana Del Rey.

Lorde is a bunch of many things but one of my favourite things is her iconic and very characteristic voice for being so raw, so masculine and yet so pure and graceful.
Another sweet thing from her music is the idea given from her "backing vocals" - it really gets us thinking about a young and really modern Björk, doesn't it?

Royals has overthrew Miley Cyrus's Wrecking Ball on Billboard's weekly chart.

Although Royals is quite a minimal song, lyrically it reflects the idea of celebrities lifestyles and "all those references to expensive alcohol, beautiful clothes and beautiful cars – I was thinking, ‘This is so opulent, but it’s also bullshit.’" - she explained to The Diplomat.
This single has a lot of attitude, becoming more mature and cohesive - making us embrace the beat without even acknowledge. This chill-out rhythm is really catchy and impressive from such a young age. I am extremely impressed!

Lorde is surely going to keep surprising. Just wait!
