Review: Bruno Mars in Lisboa, MEO Arena

Bruno Mars is one of the most complete artists, nowadays.
From Honolulu, Hawaii, this young artist came a long way until he reached success.

Last Saturday, November 16, Bruno Mars came to Portugal's capital city - Lisboa -, a show sold-out for months, with his Moonshine Jungle Tour, now touring in Europe.

Around 8.15pm, Mayer Hawthorne, a 34-year-old took the stage to warm-up the crowd to the Bruno Mars, having a very big responsibility in front of him.
For 45 minutes, he had a tough job but he was able to do a good job - full of energy, a mixed of different songs that really warmed up the eager audience.
He really made an effort to entertain people, inviting them to join his own party and glady, he was successful. He gave a very pleasing show, followed by very capable musicians - turning into a very satisfying performance.

The most anticipated man, Bruno Mars, followed by his really nice crew of eight talented musicians, joined the stage ready to prove why they are one of the best live acts, nowadays.
The expectations were extremely high for this one...

For over an hour, starting with very upbeat and energetic songs like Moonshine and Natalie - it was a very good premise for what was going to happen that night, leaving a promise in the air "I'm gonna get you movin', shakin', dancin' and sweatin'".

With a night full of soul, sexuality and passion, the beachborn-child really impressed with a strong, warm and one-of-a-kind voice and an excellent presence.

From mash-ups including blues classics like Barrett Strong's Money (That's What I Want), Billionaire and Aloe Blacc's I Need A Dollar to the earlier career hits Grenade or Just The Way You Are, the show mainly focused on Bruno Mars's second album Unorthodox Jukebox.
Marry You, If I Knew - admitting to be one of his favourite -, Young Girls were very entertaining surprises and really showed that the Portuguese fans were more than ready for this debut!

Dances remembering Michael Jackson, a small Prince tribute by playing a few notes of the classic Purple Rain, a very enthusiastic and powerful drum solo, he proved to be a one-man-show!

Happily, his bandmates really complete his live essence - joining and performing in a very choreographed show and yet, there's also time to some spontaneous moment.
The emotional moment of the night goes to When I Was Your Man. While introducing the song, Bruno explained how hard it was to compose but mostly, how hard it is to sing this song and the Portuguese audience sang in one voice bringing Bruno Mars to tears.

Locked Out of Heaven (including the drum solo intro) and Gorilla ended the amazing night, proving to be more than just a "pretty face" with a bunch of strong and cohesive songs, backed-up by talented musicians mixed with fun choreographies and reflecting the good and warm-hawaiian vibes.

Not a fan of Bruno Mars, yet? He is worth the chance!
