Review: Agir in Lisboa, Musicbox #agiriscoming

O warm-up do concerto ficou a cargo com o DJ Nokin e do Paulo Silver.

She got jealous/I was tapping on my BlackBerry").

Lil Wayne + Bruno Mars, Mirror

Lil Wayne is the artistic name for Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., who's career started in 1991 when he joined the label Cash Money Records.

He is an American rapper was part of groups like Hot Boys and The B.G.'z but he is better known for his solo work and songs like Love Me, Lollipop or Got Money.

With ten released albums - the last one I Am Not a Human Being II, released on March 26, 2013.

Mirror, also known as Mirror on the Wall, is a single taken from Tha Carter IV, from 2011, that counts with the help of Bruno Mars.
This song seems to have a very deep and strong feeling, giving the idea that Lil Wayne is talking about his struggles, pain and choices he made - which he sees on the reflection on the mirror. At some point, he seems to be comforting himself by saying "they'll understand the man I am" but the reflection (that reflects all the negative aspects of his life) is bigger than anything.

The video itself is pretty peculiar, focusing a lot on Wayne's red and black wall paintings but the final highlight goes for the moment that the wall is revealed and shows a crucified Lil Wayne on a cross, holding a microphone. The video was directed by Antoine Fuqua.

"Through my rise and fall
You’ve been my only friend
You told me that they can understand the man I am
So why are we here talkin’ to each other again"

The quicker you’re here, the faster you go.
That’s why where I come from the only thing we know is
Uh"

Jimmy P - O regresso

Joel Plácido known in the Rap world as Jimmy P, was born in 1983, in Setúbal.
With 8 years old he started to write poems and with 15 he started to try to rap. Between the 8 and 17 years old, while in France, he found out what Rap really means and formed his first group.

Ten years later, he is a reference of the portuguese Rap, becoming one of the most respected and recognized artists. In his songs he reflects about various themes and the songs are all musically different. Don’t expect always the same from him. He is definitely different.

By the end of this year, in November, Jimmy will release his album A Caminho da Lua (on the way to the moon) which counts with the collaborations of some very well-known Portuguese artists, such as Valete.

FYMS had the opportunity to see Jimmy live at Festival MUSA Cascais and we were open-mouthed. Jimmy and his band are all full of energy up in the stage. And his voice and lyrics are nothing but fantastic. Besides that, he is incredibly nice.

Fort Minor - Remember The Name

Fort Minor is a side-project of Mike Shinoda, the rapper, keyboardist and producer of Linkin Park. His debut album – The Rising Tied - was released on November the 22th of 2005 and has as the fourth single the most famous song of this project, Where’d You Go, that reached the top 5 at the Billboard Hot 100. The album was produced by Shinoda along with Jay-Z.

Both the name of the project and the name of the first album were a pretty intelligent choice of Shinoda. He puts together two opposite words “Minor” and “Fort” and the title of his first album is also a prank because according to him all the invited artists by the time of the recording were all growing up together in the music industry.

This song was used in a promotional TV trailers for the 2006 movie Gridiron Gang, as well as the trailer for the remake of the movie The Karate Kid (2010).  The National Basketball Association used Remember the Name as the theme song for the 2006 and 2007 NBA Playoffs as well as the 2008 NBA Draft. The song is also featured on the soundtrack of the EA Sports video game NBA Live 06.

In November 2006, Shinoda stated that he was going to take a break in this project, because of his dedication to his main band Linkin Park.

It's just ten percent luck
Twenty percent skill
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will
Five percent pleasure
Fifty percent pain
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name

themed week // Falco, Rock Me Amadeus

Falco was the artistic name for the Austrian singer Johann (Hans) Hözel.
He started his career in 1974 and died around 1998.

His artistic name was a tribute to the German ski jumper Falko Weißpflog, changing the "k" to make a more sounding international name.
He was known for mixing rap with pop and rock. He has sold 40 million albums and 20 million singles, making him the best selling Austrian singer of all times.
He entered the Vienna Music Conservatory in 1977, and left after one semester to become "a real musician".

His biggest hits are Der Kommissar, Rock Me Amadeus and Jeanny.

He released 7 albums - Einzelhaft (1982), Jungle Roemer (1984), Falco 3 (1985), Emotional (1986), Wiener Blut (1988), Data de Groove (1990) and Nachtflug (1992).
After his death other 5 albums were released - Out Of The Dark (Into The Light) (1998), Verdammt Wir Leben Noch (1999), Einzelhaft - 25th Anniversary Edition (2007), The Spirit Never Dies (2009) and Falco 3 - 25th Anniversary Edition (2010).
Not including 9 compilations/live albums and several singles.

Rock Me Amadeus appears on Falco 3, and was released as single in 1985.
The song is about the very known classical composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). The basic concept taken from this song is a suggestion of Mozart being the rock n' roll rebel during his time, as we can understand on the English translation of some parts of the music:
"He was a genius from the day of his birth./He could play the piano like a ring and a bell/And everybody screamed:/Come on, rock me Amadeus. ", "His mind was on rock and roll and having fun/Because he lived so fast he had to die so young./But he made his mark in history./Still everybody says:/Rock me Amadeus"

"Er war Superstar

Er war populär
Er war so exaltiert
Because er hatte Flair
Er war ein Virtuose
War ein Rockidol
Und alles rief:
Come and rock me Amadeus
Amadeus, Amadeus..."

Wiz Khalifa, Black And Yellow

Wiz Khalifa is the artistic name for Cameron Jibril Tomaz.
This north-american rapper released his first album Show and Prove in 2006, signing a year later a contract with Warner Bros.
His second album, now with Warner Bros. was released in the end of 2009 with the name Deal Or No Deal.
In 2010, he signed with the label Atlantic when he released his successful hit Black And Yellow, taken from the album Rolling Papers and nominated number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song Black And Yellow is a reference to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and all the sports teams colors. The original colors are Black and Gold, which is sometimes mistaken as yellow.

Several artists like Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne or Jermaine Dupri remake and freestyle the song created by Wiz Khalifa.

"Yeah ah ha, you know what it is
everything I do, I do it big
Yeah ah ha, screaming that's nothin
when I pulled off the lot, that's stunting"

Eminem, Not Afraid

Who doesn't know Marshall Bruce Mathers III ?
Oops! Sorry, Eminem! With 38 years old he is probably one of the most successful, known and greatest rappers around the world. Actually he is my favorite!!
He is also pretty known with his alter ego Slim Shady.
There's nothing he've already won or done - such as being a producer, making a movie, received several nominations and also wrote a book!
Eminem also had a terrible life full of problems, drugs, alcohol, rehabs and so on's but be sticked together for his daughters Hailie from his relationship with Kimberley Anne Scott, he also adopted Lainey from a previous relationship of his ex-wife and he is the legal guardian of his half-brother Nathan.
As far as I get, Eminem had a terrible life so all his problems come from that, but at the bottom he is a truly loving and human being full of energy and kindness.

With seven released albums and many participations on movies like Mile 8, Funny People or Entourage - we can see how hard working and amazing he is!

The song I choose is Not Afraid, from his latest album Recovery released in 2010.
This song has EVERYTHING!!! It's so damn powerful, so damn strong and honest. It's a life guard to those who think nothing is worth it.

"(Intro)
Yeah, It's been a ride...
I guess i had to go to that place to get to this one
Now some of you might still be in that place
If you're trying to get out, just follow me
I'll get you there
(Refrão)
I'm not afraid to take a stand
Everybody come take my hand
We'll walk this road together, through the storm
Whatever weather, cold or warm
Just let you know that, you're not alone
Holla if you feel like you've been down the same road
(Part 1)
You can try and read my lyrics off of this paper before I lay 'em
But you won't take the sting out these words before I say 'em
Cause ain't no way I'ma let you stop me from causing mayhem
When I say I'ma do something I do it, I don't give a damn
What you think, I'm doing this for me, so fuck the world
Feed it beans, it's gassed up if it thinks it's stopping me
I'mma be what I set out to be, without a doubt undoubtedly
And all those who look down on me I'm tearing down your balcony
No if ands or buts don't try to ask him why or how can he
From Infinite down to the last Relapse album he's still shittin'
Whether he's on salary, paid hourly
Until he bows out or he shits his bowels out of him
Whichever comes first, for better or worse
He's married to the game, like a fuck-you for christmas
His gift is a curse, forget the earth he's got the urge
To pull his dick from the dirt and fuck the whole universe
(Refrão)
I'm not afraid to take a stand
Everybody come take my hand
We'll walk this road together, through the storm
Whatever weather, cold or warm
Just let you know that, you're not alone
Holla if you feel like you've been down the same road
(Part 2)
Ok quit playin' with the scissors and shit, and cut the crap
I shouldn't have to rhyme these words in the rhythm for you to know it's a rap
You said you was king, you lied through your teeth
For that fuck your feelings, instead of getting crowned you're getting capped
And to the fans, I'll never let you down again, I'm back
I promise to never go back on that promise, in fact
Let's be honest, that last Relapse CD was "ehhhh"
Perhaps I ran the max and since hit the ground
Relax, I ain't going back to that now
All I'm tryna say is get back, click-clack BLAOW
Cause I ain't playin' around
There's a game called circlin', I don't know how
I'm way too rough back down
But I think I'm still tryn to figure this crap out
Thought I had it mapped out but I guess I didn't
This fucking black clouds still follow's me around
But it's time to exorcise these demons
These motherfuckers are doing jumping jacks now!
(Refrão)
I'm not afraid to take a stand
Everybody come take my hand
We'll walk this road together, through the storm
Whatever weather, cold or warm
Just let you know that, you're not alone
Holla if you feel like you've been down the same road
(Bridge)
And I just can't keep living this way
So starting today, I'm breaking out of this cage
I'm standing up, I'mma face my demons
I'm manning up, I'mma hold my ground
I've had enough, now I'm so fed up
Time to put my life back together right now
(Part 3)
It was my decision to get clean, I did it for me
Admittedly I probably did it subliminally for you
So I could come back a brand new me, you helped see me through
And don't even realise what you did, believe me you
I been through the ringer, but take it through little to the middle finger
I think I got a tear in my eye, I feel like the king of
My world, haters can make like bees with no stingers, and drop dead
No more beef flingers, no more drama from now on, I promise
To focus only on handling my responsibility's as a father
So I solemnly swear to always treat this roof like my daughters and raise it
You couldn't lift a single shingle on it
Cause the way I feel, I'm strong enough to go to the club
Or the corner pub and lift the whole liquor counter up
Cause I'm raising the bar, I shoot for the moon
But I'm too busy gazing at stars, I feel amazing and
(Refrão)
I'm not afraid to take a stand
Everybody come take my hand
We'll walk this road together, through the storm
Whatever weather, cold or warm
Just let you know that, you're not alone
Holla if you feel like you've been down the same road
"
With all my love, hope you all enjoy it!!

K'Naan, Bang Bang

One of the few songs that followed me the hole summer.
Somehow makes me wanna dance and rule the world, it's also very funny and the mix with a pop/rock singer and a rapper when truly nice.
K'Naan is amazing, he is not like the common rappers, he has a very clean and likable style. It's easy to enjoy K'Naan.
And Adam is Adam! damn, he is the singer of Maroon 5, sexy as hell, and in this video he shows that.

Like very much the song, and the very easy rap style they tend to show here!

Best of 2010, 2th Place

Keane, Stop For A Minute (feat. K'Naan)

2nd Place - my favorite band ever! KEANE with Stop For A Minute
One of my favorite songs of this summer. It’s fresh, different and i like it. It’s not on my top keane song, but this summer i listened it a lot and i choose it because it’s Keane and it’s different from their usual songs. It’s a good result and experience!
“And if I stop for a minuteI think about things really I don’t wanna know
And I’m the first to admit it
Without you I’m child and so wherever you go
I will follow”
felt that way a lot, but i hope you enjoy this song *.*
