The band of today is Ratatat, suggested by a friend of mine (thanks Tiago), the song I decided to share is "Lex", from their album "Classics", released in 2006.
Two college friends, Evan Mast and Mike Stroud decided to work together in 2001, when they record several songs under the name of Cherry. Their debut - Ratatat - was written and recorded in Stroud's apartment in Brooklyn, on his computer Mac PowerBook. Before that and some experiences later, they signed up for XL Recordings, and released their debut album and single Germany to Germany. They also remixed a few songs for their album Ratatat Remixes Vol. 1 (that caught Rolling Stones attention) and the second volume was released with a co-participation of Audio Dregs.
Both musicians had experiences from other bands, Mast with E*vax and King Pang and Stroud's stage work with Dashboard Confessional, he also recorded with Ben Kweller on On My Way.
Ratatat had already toured with Björk, Daft Punk, Mouse on Mars, Interpol, Franz Ferdinand, CSS, The Faint, Super Furry Animals, Clinic, Panther and The Killers. In 2006 they supported in Japan, Mogwai and in 2010 they supported Vampire Weekend on their uk tour.
On October 6, 2006 Ratatat became the first band to perform a public show inside the Guggenheim Museum, in New York. Four days later, a demo of their new album entitled as 9 Beats was leaked online, it was never released.
From June 2007 until October 2008, Ratatat had Martin Bonventre working with them on their European tour and American fall shows as pianist/synthesizer player. He was very known to his afro and eccentric dance moves on stage, the reason for him leaving the live show is not known.
Ratatat performances are very similar to psychedelic rock bands from San Francisco in the 60's, thanks to "energetic light shows, swirling colors projected onto a screen, and random clips of movies thrown in.". Evan Mast creates and edits the videos that are projected on the screen, and many of them are included in their YouTube account.
Ratatat also contributed for Kid Cudi's debut album "Man on the Moon: The End of Day", released in September 15, 2009. The two songs are "Alive" and "Pursuit of Happiness" featuring MGMT.
Ratatat's fourth album "LP4", released on June 8, 2008, was recorded during the same studio sessions that was their third "LP3".
Hope you enjoy it!
PS keep an eye on Lex's latest post about Portuguese revolution that happen in April 25, 1974.
With Love,
