The band was composed by Holly Johnson (vocals), Paul Rutherford (vocals, keyboards), Peter Gill (drums, percussion), Mark O'Toole (bass guitar) and Brian Nash (guitar).
The group's name comes from a page from The New Yorker Magazine that featured the headline "Frankie Goes To Hollywoood" and a picture of Frank Sinatra - although the mentioned page was related with the pop art poster by Guy Peellaert.
FGTH's biggest hits are Relax, Power Of Love and Two Tribes.
Frankie Goes To Hollywood only released two studio albums - Welcome To The Pleasuredome (1984) and Liverpool (1986), but in return they've released something like 9 compilation albums.
The band was active from 1980 to 1987, than returning in 2004 ending in 2007, due to some group problems.

Relax was banned by BBC in 1984, when it was at number 6 on the UK charts. The single became the seventh best-selling UK single of all time (in May 2006).
The advertisement made for Relax was very controversy at the time, using two quarter-page ads with the image of Paul Rutherford wearing a sailor cap and a leather vest and Holly Johnson with shaved head and rubber gloves. With that image two different quotes - "ALL THE NICE BOYS LOVE SEA MEN" - "Frankie Goes To Hollywood are coming... making Duran Duran lick the shit off their shoes... Nineteen inches that must be taken always" and "Theories of bliss, a history of Liverpool from 1963 to 1983, a guide to Amsterdam bars."
