On his solo career he is known for songs like Imagine, Give Peace a Chance or Happy Xmas (War Is Over).
After the end of The Beatles around 1970's he started a solo career - releasing eight studio albums: John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band (1970), Imagine (1971), Some Time in New York City - with Yoko One - (1972), Mind Games (1973), Walls and Bridges (1974), Rock n' Roll (1975), Double Fantasy - with Yoko One - (1980) and Milk And Honey - with Yoko One - (1984), besides three experimental albums, two live albums and seventeen compilations.
Woman is the second single taken from John Lennon's Double Fantasy released in 1980, although at the beginning the album wasn't very well received, it's always associated with Lennon's murder three weeks after.
The song is very known for being an ode to his wife Yoko Ono and to all women, how he realized that the woman of his dreams was his actual savior.
On an interview for Rolling Stone magazine later in 1980, Lennon said "Woman came about because (...) I saw what women do for us. Not just what my Yoko does for me (...) Women really are the other half of the sky, as I whisper at the beginning of the song. And it just sort of hit me like a flood, and it came out like that. (...) I did it as I did Girl many years afo. So this is the grown-up version of Girl."
"Woman I know you understand
The little child inside of the man
Please remember my life is in your hands
And woman hold me close to your heart
However distant don't keep us apart
After all it is written in the stars"
