Yesterday, we started our review of Optimus Alive'13, which you can check here.
On the same path as yesterday, these are our opinions and experiences of Day 2.
DIIV (05.45pm):
Patricia: "I usually go to Stage Heineken in search of new bands. I caught DIIV in the most random way because I was passing through the stage and I found their sound really catchy and easy-going.
I'm glad I decided to stay. They are a relatively new band, created in 2011, and yet they were able to give a solid show.
With a constant interaction with the not-so-small audience, their futuristic aura mixed with instruments that really seem to be taken from some racky early 90's band, their sound really sounds mature and cohesive. They gave a pleasant show and I am really hoping to hear more from them."
Wild Belle (06.50pm):
Patricia: "Wild Belle was probably the surprise of the night since it was recommended by a friend, that early that morning decided to discover a bit more about them, and it was really fulfilling in the most unexpected way.
This american indie rock band led by the siblings Elliot and Natalie Bergman were absolutely amazing.
I am a fan of indie rock bands and especially with such a raw voice like Natalie's (doesn't remind you of the Portuguese Luísa Sobral?
They caught me out of guard with their presence, their reggae-indie performance and the simplicity of their act is incredible. They were, probably, one of my best discoveries of this Optimus Alive edition."
Analex: "Wild Belle was the kind of bets you need to do in the beginning of the day when you are not a fan of the band that is playing in the main stage. WB proved live the expectations I got when I listened their debut album. A very cool sound, with some melodies that could be easily connected to reggae bands. Luísa Sobral, our own and only beautiful Portuguese singer, was also remembered during this show due to Wild Belle's lead singer angelical voice. "
Patricia: "I listen to Editors for a while now and I've always had big expectations for their shows.
But I was always a bit concern about them performing in a festival. Unfortunately, those concerns became true.
Editors are one of those bands that you should only be able to listen on their own shows and their style and kind of music (especially, the latest albums) isn't suitable for a festival that primes for being so energetic and full of joy. I like their music, and even though, they didn't do a bad show, I got the impression that Editors could do more."
Capitão Fausto (09.25pm):
Patricia: "Capitão Fausto are this young and pretty talented Portuguese band composed by mature teenagers (funny combination right?). Yet, they have a strong presence on stage, connection with every single person in the audience.
Capitão Fausto have a really bright future in front of them and they proved it in this Optimus Alive performance. Bring it on, Capitão!"
Depeche Mode (10pm):
Patricia: "I'm not this huge fan of Depeche Mode but I was curious to see them - for being part of my musical growth with songs like Enjoy The Silence, Just Can't Get Enough, Personal Jesus or Precious (yes, those were the songs that I really knew and the ones I was most eager to see).
Unfortunately, this gig was a huge disappointment. Depeche Mode were not interesting, they weren't able to connect with their audience despite the several interactions with people - there was something that kept missing during the show which was the excitement.
The only remarkable moments of this gig were the 80's hits that started a bit late to recover from the failure. I really expected more"
Nádia: "The rest of the day was a bit of a mood killer but then Depeche Mode happened - absolutely smashing concert! There's just something about the way Dave Gahan moves on stage that you've gotta love. From all my favourite oldies to some of their most recent hits, they played a bit of everything and really seemed to be enjoying themselves up there, making sure they brought the crowd in on all the fun! Probably Alive 13's best!"
Tanya: "Depeche Mode’s performance was once again an amazing experience for anyone who had the privilege to watch. Much better than at Pavilhão Atlântico on their last tour to include Portugal, Depeche Mode were sure to make their electronic music echo throughout Algés (where the festival was held) and brought back sweet memories to all who watched the band grow. Dave Gahan’s unique presence as well as his flawless voice are overpowering still today. The crowd responded accordingly, chanting timeless lyrics. Once again, a great line up and an awesome atmosphere which made all who attended feel ALIVE!"
Jamie Lidell (10.40pm):
Analex: "I decided to give it a try to Jamie Lidell show after listening for a bit Depeche Mode's show. It was a good choice, his sound is very good and very attractive. Although I was seated I could not help but move my head according to the beat of Jamie's songs."
Throes + The Shine (11.40pm):
Francisco F.: "Who thinks that rock and kuduro are two things that shouldn't be mixed, it's because they didn't listen to Throes + The Shine. They are born from the combination of two genres that, at first sight, have nothing in common, but what seems unlikely to happen is what usually works. And they are the live proof of that!
The vocals of André and Diron connected with the rock sound of Throes to create what they called (and perfectly) rockuduro and spread joy to the few people watching the spectacular performance at the Coreto from Red Bull Music Academy. It was 30 minutes and probably the best half hour of the entire festival. Smiles, jumps and mosh: everything joined together to make this show the perfect celebration. This is the best definition of living that we are able to find"
The Legendary Tigerman (12.05am):
Patricia: "I've always been a fan of Paulo Furtado and all his different projects and The Legendary Tigerman is no exception.
As a perfect "one-man-show" and entertainer with a few guests like Paulo Segadães (ex-Vicious Five), The Legendary Tigerman with his soul, rock and blues songs conquer every single person that stopped to see this fantastic show.
I really liked him but after this show I am able to say that The Legendary Tigerman is one of the best performers and entertainers in Portugal."
Analex: ""Quem é que aqui gosta de Rock 'n' Roll?" [Who in here likes Rock and Roll?] I went with very high expectations to The Legendary Tigerman show. Thank God, he didn't disappointed me. He is definitely different from what I usually hear. It's a shame that this kind of artists are not given as much as credit as they should have here in Portugal. I will with no doubts see him again."
Nádia: "A bit of The Legendary Tigerman to wrap up the evening made day 2 a very good day!"
Crystal Castles (02.55am):
Patricia: "Crystal Castles are extremely good on live performances. I didn't expect them to be so good.
Their energy, their power and their capacity of putting so many (survivors) people jumping and dancing at 3am and with a lot of hours of music and tiredness is just remarkable.
They are not only good performers but also good musicians.
Crystal Castles gave one of the best shows of the night and I'm ready for their return."

Jurassic 5 (07.10pm):
Nádia: ""If you're having fun put your hands in the air!"... Jurassic 5 isn't exactly my choice in music, but my hands were in the air - a nice beat and very entertaining."
Editors (08:30pm):Patricia: "I listen to Editors for a while now and I've always had big expectations for their shows.
