Filho da Mãe releases "Cabeça"

Filho da Mãe releases today his second record Cabeça.

After, Palácio - released in 2011 -, Filho da Mãe releases his second record as an independent release with the support of Cultura Fnac.
The digital version is held by Universal Music Portugal and released in Vinyl through Lovers & Lollypops.

To promote the record, there's going to be a show, on November 15, at Teatro do Bairro in Lisboa.
The entry is possible through the confirmation receipt of the record's purchase or it's also possible to buy the record, at Teatro do Bairro on the show's night.

The teaser of Não te Mexas (see above) was recorded by Cláudia Guerreiro, edited by Ricardo Tabosa at Coro Alto, Espaço do Tempo in Montemor-o-Novo.

Interview // With Riding Pânico

Riding Pânico is a band created in 2004 by elements from PAUS, If Lucy Fell and Men Eater.

They've released two EPs and one record Lady Cobra, in 2008.
In 2013, they return with Homem Elefante - released last June 10th through Raging Planet. Discover more about them here.

We took the chance to send them some questions. Check it below!

FYMS: Vocês têm um nome muito particular. Como surgiu? 
Shela: Não sei se isso acontece com toda a gente, mas os nomes são a coisa mais difícil de arranjar/descobrir, quer seja o nome de uma musica ou de uma banda. Julgo que isso acontece porque em qualquer um dos casos, é como tentar arranjar uma ou duas ou três palavras para definir uma ideia! Ainda assim, o nome surge completamente por acaso, por intermédio duma fotografia que o jorge tirou no carro do BB quando vínhamos dum ensaio de riding pânico. Era uma boa foto, e deu origem a um nome. (ponto final)

FYMS: O vosso primeiro disco chama-se Lady Cobra. Este segundo trabalho chama-se Homem Elefante. Porquê esta simbologia tão ligada aos animais?
Shela: Aconteceu assim e tem alguma piada que dê para fazer esse paralelismo.

FYMS: Levaram 5 anos a lançar o segundo disco. Como foi o processo de preparar e gravar o disco?
Shela: Foi igual ao processo do disco anterior, pessoas juntas, com vontade de tocar e com algumas coisas para dizer, que se juntaram num sitio e arranjaram uma maneira de fazer com que tudo resultasse num discurso coerente, é isso o Homem Elefante.

FYMS: Todos têm projectos paralelos. Como é que isso influencia o vosso trabalho nos Riding Pânico?
Shela: De todas as maneiras e de nenhuma. Acho que o facto de haver projectos paralelos é uma coisa saudável e benéfica, ou seja, obriga-te a procurar caminhos novos para sítios onde ainda não tinhas estado.

FYMS: Dance Hall é o primeiro single de Homem Elefante. Qual é a história por trás da música?
Shela: Não há história nenhuma concreta, ou há uma série delas na cabeça de quem a ouve.

FYMS: Uma das curiosidades deste disco é o facto de ser um disco muito poderoso instrumentalmente, acentuado pela ausência de um vocalista. Foi algo premeditado?
Shela: Não, pura e simplesmente não existia ninguém com a urgência de cantar, e então aconteceu assim. O outro disco também foi assim.

FYMS: Como descrevem o vosso próprio som?
Shela: Como se tivesses a tua avó a subir-te pelas pernas com uma faca nos dentes. Não te consigo responder a isso a não ser que te ponha a ouvir o disco. Já uma vez algum de nós descreveu: rock de expansão mental, pode ser isso, ou pode ser pura e simplesmente rock.

FYMS: Qual tem sido o feedback relativamente a este novo trabalho?
Shela: Até agora tem sido muito bom!.... mas ainda só demos 4 concertos.

FYMS: O que pensam da música portuguesa, hoje em dia?
Shela: Está de muito boa saúde, é continuar assim.

FYMS: Quais são os próximos passos?
Shela: Concertos, e o mais rapidamente possível gravar mais um ep, ou outro disco.

FYMS: Perguntas da praxe…
a) Um dia…
Shela: ... não são dias.
b) O melhor que podem dizer sobre vocês…
Shela: ... que gostamos de tocar juntos.
c) E o pior… 
Shela: ... que somos preguiçosos.
d) Daqui a dez anos…
Shela: ... mais outros dez.

A couple of weeks ago we met with two members of the Portuguese band PAUS: Hélio Morais and Joaquim Albergaria.

We have already talked a bit of this band in our blog, more precisely regarding their presence at 'Primavera Sound Festival' and 'Optimus Primavera Sound' (here) and we included one of their songs called Deixa-me Ser in one of ours themed weeks (here).

Riding Pânico, Dance Hall

Riding Pânico is a band created in 2004 by elements from PAUS, If Lucy Fell and Men Eater.

They've released two EPs and one record Lady Cobra, in 2008.
In 2013, they return with Homem Elefante - released last June 10th through Raging Planet.

This new work is full of electric environment mixed with melancholic sounds, devious tastes and a big highlight to the guitars. Riding Pânico are talented and that reflects with a strong musical element of connecting people and music into a unique side.

Dance Hall is the perfect reflection of Riding Pânico sound, inovation and creativity.
Strong instrumental, powerful guitars and a raw element through-out the song brings something really special to this new single and work of this Portuguese band.

News // Paus release a new EP and will be playing at 'Primavera Sound Festival' and 'Optimus Primavera Sound'

PAUS, a portuguese band composed by Hélio Morais, Fábio Jevelim, Joaquim Albergaria and Makoto Yagyu, started the year of 2013 doing new music to share with their fans. While they are still working on that, they recorded an EP Estamos Juntos (meaning ‘We are together’) that goes now along with the album they released in 2011 called PAUS. This edition and price are limited and are available at any FNAC.

This month PAUS have two shows scheduled:

• 24th May - Primavera Sound Festival - Barcelona
• 30th May - Optimus Primavera Sound 2013 - Porto

JUBA, Bloodvessels

JUBA are a fresh and young Portuguese band from the city of Lisbon.

This project joins members from Tropical Tobacco and Colour Is A Common Mistake.

With a first single Bloodvessels, recently recorded at Blacksheep Studios -, and under the guidance and production of the talented hands of Makoto Yagyu (known from being members of PAUS, Riding Pânico and If Lucy Fell) and Fábio Jevelim (from Men Eater and Riding Pânico), they may be new with a freshly recorded single but they know how to win people's hearts.

They are, unquestionably, a very talented band with a promising path.
Not much is known about this band but that makes you more concerned about music instead of connecting with faces or previous works. Mystery is missing around the world and they have that important key, which can be tremendously interesting with well managed.

 

On this video, it's possible to see their "summer retreat, where many of their cosmic tunes were brought into life".
And gladly because I'm really eager to listen more from JUBA.

themed week // PAUS, Deixa-me Ser

PAUS are a band created by Hélio Morais, Joaquim Albergaria, Makoto Yagyu and João "Shela" Pereira.
They all come from tremendously successful bands like If Lucy Fell, The Vicious Five and Linda Martini and joined together on the need and willing of four friends joining together for the only purpose of creating and playing music.

Besides their particular sound and indescribable energy, they are a different band for their siamese and mirrored drums.
On their label Enchufada's website you are able to read "But this is a new sound and it’s the sound we want you to listen." And they do not lie, PAUS are a really exciting live band which absolutely deserves some listening.

With two works released - the EP É Uma Água, in 2010 and the same-titled first album, in 2011.

Deixa-me Ser is taken from their first LP also named PAUS. A very awesome live song, even on the studio recording we are able to receive all their energy, talent and very clear differences united by the pleasure of making such terrifyingly good music.
A real proof of the incredible music done in Portugal.

PAUS are performing on the last day of the festival Optimus Alive!, on July 15, alongside with Radiohead, Caribou and Metronomy. You can't miss them!
