The band changed the name to One Republic after they signed to Columbia Records, they were advised to change from Republic thanks to the controversy that might cause.
One Republic have supported artists like P!nk, Maroon 5 and Bon Jovi.
Around 2004 after working for two and a half years on their first album, they were dropped by Columbia Records only two months before the set date for the album release - having Sleep as their debut single. One Republic started to get noticed on the social network MySpace becoming the number-one unsigned act on that same site.
In 2007, One Republic release Dreaming Out Loud - now under the label Mosley Music Group and released Apologize - and later remixed by Timbaland.
From the same album, there's also Stop And Stare or Mercy.
Until 2009, this record sold over 2 million copies around the world, however the press reception was something between negative and reasonable.
Their second album Waking Up was released in 2009, selling over 800.000 copies. The first single from the record was All The Right Moves.
The video directed by Wayne Isham, features the band playing on a small stage at a masquerade ball. While the dancers move according to the music a small well-dressed kid collects donations from the people around. All the visual sensation of the video is very Edwardian style contrasting with the modern sound of the song. The band revealed they "like to have an abstract flavor to their music videos so as to allow for a broader range of interpretation".
"Just paint the picture of a perfect place
They've got it better than what anyone's told you
They'll be the King of Hearts, and you're the Queen of Spades
And we'll fight for you like we were your soldiers"
I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!
