The Mars Volta are an American progressive rock band. They started their activity in 2001 and since then they have realesed 6 studio albums.

This song is from their first album, released in 2003, called De-Loused in the Comatorium. This album was based on a short story written by Cedric Bixler-Zavala, the lead singer.

It's based on Julio Venegas' death, a friend of the band.
(One of the co-writers of this story was found dead, due to an overdose, before the launch of the album.)
